Micro Swiss All Metal Hot end with Cooling Block for Wanhao Duplicator i3. This is a drop in replacement for the hot end on the Wanhao Duplicator i3.
Micro Swiss deliver precision that surpasses your highest expectations for custom-machined components with tolerances as low as .0002 (2/10,000) of an inch.
This is Micro Swiss All Metal Hot end kit with redesigned cooling block for Wanhao Duplicator i3 with the following improvements:
Micro Swiss All Metal Hotend Kit Features:
All metal hotend upgrade for MK10 style extruders. This upgrade includes a modified thermal barrier tube and modified nozzle with modified cooling block. Thermal barrier tube is made from 2 different materials. The lower thermal break is made from stainless steel, and the colder upper part is made from aluminum. Stainless steel was used for thermal break because it offers low thermal conductivity, and aluminum was used for the upper portion because it has a lot better thermal conductivity, to carry away any heat from the filament. All metal hotend will let you print at much higher temperature then possible with original PTFE lined one. Another benefit of an all metal hotend design is more consistent melt chamber control. During slow extrusion rate, in PTFE lined hotend, transition zone from solid to molten plastic tends to creep upward creating more stringy prints. With all metal design a transition zone is always constant, being located right at the heat break. With fast extrusion rate, PTFE tube doesn't have enough thermal conductivity to properly melt all the plastic coming out. On MK10 extruders that limitation happens around 60 mm/s, depending on nozzle size. All metal hotend solves this problem, plastic is surrounded by thermally conductive nozzle throughout its length.
Orifice size: 0.4mm

Immediately you take the parts out of the packaging you can feel the quality. All aluminium. After removing the original components, screwed right on. I have replaced the Extruder at the same time. Its worth watching the online videos as there is a trick to putting the hot end together but still very easy and basic. Minimum amount of tools needed, and an easy DIY job even for those with 5 thumbs. After resetting the bed leveling (Sits a little lower than the standard nozzle but not by a lot.), you can immediately feel and see the difference as the PLA comes out like butter. Instantly cured the layer adhesion problems I was having but I guess I cannot complain as this is the first maintenance my i3 has had since getting it 3 or 4 years ago.
Feeding in the filament is now much easier. It was really hit and miss with the original probably thanks to no longer having to content with the PTFE material
Highly recommended for when you have worn out you originals and you start having feeding or layering issues.

I recently bought myself a Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus and quickly got to grips with printing normal materials like PLA and ABS, but I wanted to try out some of the more exotic filaments like Nylon and Polycarbonate which require much higher temps.
To this end I bought a Micro-Swiss all metal ho-tend with slotted cooling block, and I'm utterly amazed at not only how easy the upgrade was, but also how nice my prints have become.
The install took about 15 minutes in total, and the instructions provided by Micro-Swiss are clear and concise.
Printing with the all metal hot-end is precise, and putting down consistent 0.1mm first layers is a breeze. My prints look and feel better, I can print faster, and best of all, I can print hotter, which means high quality mechanical prints are no longer out of reach.
