 Product Description

This V6 Metal Hot End is based on the original E3D V6 Hot End design.  This hot end is not manufactured by E3D, but is the generic version.  The V6 hot end is an upgrade from the V5 design.  The heater block has been improved by clamping the heater cartridge and the fixing the thermistor.  This design is more robust and allows for improved thermal transfer.  Another improvement is the V6 hot end is about 10mm shorter in length than the V5 hot end.  This allows for higher prints.

This hot end is a hybrid between the J-head hot end and the All Metal hot end, because it has the sturdy metal structure of the All Metal hot end with a cooling fan and the easy to use internal structure of the J-Head hot end with the high temperature PTFE liner.  It uses a fan to constantly blow over the cooling fins to cool down the hot end quickly enough for accurate printing.  This is a easy to use, high quality hot end and has been tested with ABS, PLA, Nylon, PC and Flexible filament and up to a temperature of 300 Deg C.  This hot end comes with cooling fan, heater cartridge and thermistor.

  • This hot end is for 1.75mm filament and can be ordered with a 0.5, 0.4 or 0.3mm nozzle. 
  • It comes installed with a 12V fan and bracket for cooling as well as a 12V, 40W heater cartridge and 100k thermistor with leads.
  • The bowden connector is included and is design for a PTFE tube with 4mm OD and 2mm ID.

Note: It is possible that the hot end might leak plastic at the heater block when it is used for the first time.  This is because the nozzle was tightened at room temperature and when the hot end is heated up to printing temperature, a small gap is created between the nozzle and the heat break.  To solve this, loosen the grub screw that locks the nozzle (if present) and heat the hot end to printing temperature.  Hold the heater block with pliers and tighten the nozzle with a spanner a little bit at a time so that the nozzle seats on the heat break.  When done, tighten the grub screw onto the nozzle again.  Please see the Product Videos section for a video on this or watch the YouTube video here.

    Please note that this hotend is not for the beginner as if you’re not familiar with your printer settings "retraction etc" then you will experience a blocking issue.

    The heat break is rather flimsy and can and will break if you tighten it too much or if its put under pressure, I broke my first one the same day I got it.

    Here is what makes this hotend in my opinion one of the best on the market and if not for the heat break issue and how easy it is to jam the thing would of scored a 5 star instead of the 3 I have set.

    Unlike other hotends, the E3D v6 has no PEEK or PTFE in the hot regions of the hotend. The v6 hotend can reach 300°C with the supplied thermistor. Even more impressive it can reach over 400°C if the thermistor is swapped for a thermocouple (Additional electronics may be required).

    The v6 3D Printer hotend allows high temperature materials such as polycarbonate and nylons to be easily printed, and provides best in class performance. Even though there is a PTFE liner inside the hotend, this is never subjected to high temperatures, eliminating risk of hotend meltdown or damage to the internal liner.

    The v6 heater block maximises thermal conduct by clamping around the cartridge heater, this provides super fast heat up times and responsive temperature control. This new clamping system allows the 3D printer head to go from 20°C to 200°C in just 65 seconds. The v6 is so responsive that it can keep the hotend within 0.5°C of the target temperature.
