 Product Description

Premium Wanhao PLA filament for open source 3D Printers.  High quality filament available in a wide variety of colours.  It offers the best of both worlds with great printing quality backed by more cost-efficient manufacturing processes. These two features culminate into an excellent mid-range filament that everyone can enjoy and afford, without having to pay premium prices or concern themselves with sub-par printing quality. The filament comes on a plastic spool and is sealed in a plastic bag with desiccant and packaged in a box (sometimes we remove the filament from the box to fit everything into your parcel).  Each spool is marked with the type of filament and the manufacturing batch number.  We have a lot of confidence in the filament we supply, because we use it ourselves.

PLA (Polylactic acid) is very common in the 3D Printers industry.  This is mostly due to its low thermal expansion coefficient.  This means less warping and curling during printing.  PLA is not as tough as other plastics, but delivers prints with very high dimensional accuracy, ideal for prototyping and scale models.  It is available in a range of colours and is easy to print with.

  1. Magic

Easy to work with and gives beautifull results. Has one consistant colour that does not show layer line easy.

  2. Good prints take some time

Posted by Ghecko on 17th Dec 2019

When first opening the filament and unhooking it from the spool, the tip simply broke off. It seems very soft and doesn't bend like normal PLA. I also managed to break off a piece while pushing it through the extruder to clean out the old PLA.

During the first print I noticed it has a very low melting point and seems to string a lot more than any other PLA I've printed with. Increasing retraction distance or speed had little effect.

Overall my prints came our looking good apart from the stringing, and they're bit more flexible than standard PLA. Good for learning, but don't see myself using this in any practical applications.

No problems printing with this product. Easy to print, low melting point and can use sanding discs afterwards. Looks like genuine wood. No to try out their Bronze filament.

  4. Not bad, not the best.

The wood filament is tricky to print with. About 4/10 prints fail due to nozzel clogs. Retraction around 4mm works well, but I still got clogs. If you succeed with the print, it has a mat finish which can be stained, like normal wood. Its more flimsy than normal PLA, but not flexible like TPU. All things considered, if you are interested, you should try it. Its not as expensive as other wood filaments, and the few successful prints are definitly worth it.
